My Students

Are you one of those people or do you know someone who struggles with math to this day and math just doesn't make sense? This is the majority of my students. I am always trying to think of ways to turn on that light bulb so they can finally have that "aha" moment and feel successful in math.

The majority of the students are on free/reduced lunch.

We have a good amount of students that just do not have the support at home to help them along their way and in junior high that is so important for success. Their background in math is weak and the consistency and repetition that is required to be successful in math has not been stressed. These students need something that not only focuses on repetition but also grabs their attention and is fun.

My Project

Right before school started, I attended a workshop about using ipods in the classroom. I started looking for apps for math on my iphone and was amazed. The apps that I have found address all different types of learners and the great part is that I can help my low students and challenge my high students all in the same class on the same day without running off a single copy. I have been using my iphone the last few days for my remediation class and it has helped out so much. I can get them started on an app and still work with other students. It would be wonderful if I could have a set of ipods for my class so I can hand them out to weak students and have them working on a concept they are struggling with while I am focusing on the higher students who need to be challenged or giving the higher students the ipods to expand on their knowledge while working with the lower students on a concept that is evading them.

While it is important to help the struggling students that are at risk of being left behind, it is equally important to challenge the higher students and help them achieve everything they possible can.

I hope that with the addition of ipods to the classroom, I can, in effect, become two teachers, one who challenges and one who helps those that are struggling so that eventually I can challenge them more as well. Thank you so much for your consideration.
