This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It's amazing how we as educators stretch our last dime to meet the needs of our students. As a teacher in a Title 1 school, I spend many nights wondering how to fit lessons in that don't require many materials because I know that most students lack them and, financially, I am not always able to help.
Although the school year has not begun, the majority of students at my school are low-income.
The students are special individuals who wish to learn as much as they can and are not truly aware of the shortcomings they face. They come to school with whatever materials their parents are able to provide and for some, getting a notebook and a pack of pencils is the very best they can do. However, despite adversities, these children work extremely hard and manage to do exceptionally well on standardized tests, which truly speaks highly of each individual student. The students do not beg for materials but are extremely appreciative for all things given as they know it was not something that had to be done.
My Project
These items I am requesting is to complete day to day assignments. Notebooks, pencils, and erasers are part of students everyday needs for the classroom; however, many students come to school at times with nothing. Glue and scissors help tremendously with hands-on activities and interactive notebooks as students constantly cut and paste items. Many activities are postponed and put off altogether because it takes to much time to share 2 glue sticks and 5 scissors with 25 students. Tissues and soaps are something that is needed in every classroom to reduce illnesses in the classroom which will help with attendance issues. All items are needed to have a successful school year.
Please donate.
The items on the list are the simple basic items students need to continue academic success throughout the entire school year. Notebooks become lost, stolen, or dismantled, while pencils seem to never last. Illnesses tend to take over student attendance, therefore, soap, Kleenex, and air fresheners help with the sanitary needs of the classroom. Chart paper, glue, scissors, and erasers are the many things the students run out of and the many things I am not always able to afford
