This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It's easy to forget the rolls of women in our history. Many students and adults believe that women haven't been creating music for very long. This project will not only share the music of histories women it will also share their strength and stories.

My high school students are hard working students from an inner city school.

We have more than 90% free and reduced lunch. Their home environments and culture in music tends to be on the folk side. They don't have much background in music history, or historic composers and compositions. However, when they are given stories of how music was created and developed they ask for more!

My Project

I am requesting books and sound recordings that will inspire my young students to explore their music creativity. Both male and female students will learn about the challenges and accomplishments of the worlds women composers. And discuss how they worked through each of their individual challenges or gifts.

This project is important because many times the women in history and music are left behind and forgotten.

This project will not only educate the students about great women, but hopefully inspire them to be creative themselves.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
