Tech Crew Troubles ... Can You Help?

My students need two way radios for the backstage crew to communicate during productions.

My Students

Have you ever wanted to say something to someone but lacked a way to communicate? It's a frustrating experience, and it's one my drama students go through frequently. We lack 2-way radios that would serve as a vital link between the light crew, sound crew, stage manager, and me during shows.

My students are middle school kids from all walks of life.

They are such fun kids, and for many of them, this drama class is their first taste of theater. This gift, in particular, would help my "techies." These kids are sometimes the quiet ones, and overlooked as they tend to shy away from the spotlight. These kids often find their niche and sense of belonging by running sound and lights.

My Project

Your gift would mean the world to my "techies!" Clipping the radio to their belt and putting on a headset will give them confidence and sense of professionalism that they desire. It would enable me to teach them the proper way to work on a crew, by calling commands to each other. Our lighting controls, sound board, and spotlight are located in different areas. Right now, our stage manager has no way to call commands, and the technical crew has no way to communicate to each other. When something unexpected happens during a show (and with middle school kids, it's going to happen!), they lack a way to talk to each other to fix it. In addition, at our drama festivals, our students are expected to know how to call cues using a headset system. This puts our kids at a disadvantage because they don't have the equipment to help them practice. This gift would help us create a well-rounded theater program and give our students an equal footing when we head to drama festivals.
