Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Picture this: you walk into a book store and there are books thrown everywhere! Nothing is categorized or organized in any type of order! This is what my classroom library looks like now. This makes it difficult for students to find books they like and are on their reading level.

My students come from a high poverty area.

Most of them don't own books. The books from the school library and my classroom library may be the only time they are exposed to good quality books. They need as much exposure to books as possible! Many of these students are second language learners. The color coded bins would help them find books that they like.

My Project

Using the books bins the classroom library will be organized and neat. It will also be easier to find books. All books will be stored in certain colored bins. For example, Non-fiction books will be in yellow bins. Fiction picture books will be in red bins. Chapter books that are part of series will be in blue bins. Chapter books that are not part of a series will be in green bins. Students will now be able to find exactly the type of books they like.

As any good teacher knows-getting the books in their hands is KEY!

If books are presented in an easy to find system students will be reading books they would have never chosen! Let's make our students' life easier by making it easy for them to find just the right book!
