Let's Kick Off the Year with Great Books!

My students need a variety of engaging chapter books to boost their literacy skills and excitement about reading.

My Students

Do you remember finishing your first chapter book? How about a time when you or your child discovered a series of books or a new favorite author? The sense of accomplishment and hunger for more books are exactly what we can inspire in young readers!

My third graders are ready to transition from learning to read to reading to learn.

At our high-need, inner city school, we strive to provide kids with rich, balanced literacy instruction. And my students are ready to be challenged and supported at their level as they journey to become amazing readers.

My Project

These sets of age-appropriate books will support my teaching of small guided reading groups. These flexible groups support kids at their reading level, but teaching with any old books won't do! The titles I've chosen are third grade favorites and reflect cultural, gender, and genre diversity. Picture my students solving a mystery alongside of Ziggy and friends; connecting with Maria Isabel as she learns the family history of her name; laughing with Stink and his latest adventure; cheering for Ruby in a school contest; and learning valuable lessons from Arthur and friends. We'll use these texts to analyze characters, learn new vocabulary, build fluency, and develop students' confidence as readers. Because most of these books are part of a series, my students can then continue reading about familiar characters on their own and share favorites with their classmates.

Let's kick off the new school year with amazing literature!

Your support will bring new, exciting texts into our classroom, igniting my students' enthusiasm for reading and inspiring them to seek out "the next book in the series" on their own. Together we can best support these young readers!
