Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help me drag our inner-city Chicago public school into the 21st century. Other districts are leaving us in the dust with technology and their advantage is a huge disadvantage to our students. Let's level the playing field and give our kids the latest in teaching technology- the Elmo!

Our students come from families that struggle to make ends meet.

Many of them never leave the neighborhood they live in and miss out on one of the most beautiful cities in the world-Chicago! Because of this, the responsibility of showing them the world outside of their street falls on the shoulders of their teachers. The two field trips we are allowed help, but a tool that would help show them the world on a daily basis and teach them with ground-breaking technology would change the scope and level at which they learn.

My Project

The Elmo is the latest in cutting-edge teaching technology. It allows the teacher to put any document, photo, magazine picture, poem, petri dish, etc. under a camera and reflect it onto a screen. It has zoom capability and enhances the image for all students to easily view together. The image would be larger and clearer than anything you could get from the Internet and the possibilities for teaching are endless. The impact on my writing instruction alone would be unbelievable! I could scan their writing under the camera and reflect it on the wall to create quick and easy writing mini-lessons using their work! Think of the paper and ink saved by not making copies for everyone to see. With this cutting-edge technology, my teaching and their learning would be enriched with vivid, exciting, and instant imaging.

Having an Elmo would truly change the way I teach in my classroom.

It would help bring our classroom into this century and make our students feel like they have the same advantages as others in more fortunate districts. This piece of technology is the key that will open the door of possibilities for my students and revolutionize my teaching. Relevant, timely, and lively instruction will be the norm. Please tickle us with an Elmo!
