Surviving Construction with NO Playground!!

My students need recess items including speed stack cups, jump ropes, hula hoops, mats, and hop balls.

My Students

Can you imagine coming to school and not having a playground to go to at recess? That is exactly the situation my students are in. Our playground is currently unusable. We are getting a new building that will be ready next year, but in the meantime, my 5th graders have no where to play.

My 5th graders are a typical group of rambunctious, competitive, active children.

They have been a part of our school for 6 years now, but their last year of elementary school will be spent with no playground. They will have no opportunities to play soccer or tag with their friends. They will be confined to a blacktop area that is very small for their outdoor play. By providing the outdoor toys I am requesting, I hope to give my 5th graders good memories of their last year here. Even though they can't participate in the games they typically have played at recess, I hope these toys and games will give them an outlet of energy and teach teamwork and cooperation.

My Project

The Speed Stackers I am requesting are an excellent way for students to learn eye-hand coordination, following directions, rhythm, and team work. This is an activity that can be done on any flat surface with limited space. Students will work cooperatively to complete patterns while stimulating their concentration and using both sides of their brains. The jump ropes and hula hoops will allow my students the chance to get active, burn calories, and work together. With limited activity this year, my students will need every chance they can get to be active and move!

My 5th graders deserve a good year their last year of elementary school.

They are sad to not have a playground this year, and they will never have the benefit of going to the new school, either. They feel left out of the excitement and sad that they don't get to play outside this year. I want to make them know that they are still very important to me and to the school, and that we are sorry that they don't have the chance to enjoy the playground their last year here.
