My Students

I teach at a high poverty school that specializes in technology. There are over 1200 students, 65% African American, 65% qualify for school lunches. I am the only French teacher. Despite the many odds against them from their hardship lives, 75% of these students are accepted to college.

My students want to learn and have a lot to overcome.

Many have borderline lives, with poverty and broken homes. All want to learn and to surmount their hard circumstances. Despite their difficult circumstances, lives where violence, fires, etc threaten, 75% of these students succeed in being accepted to college.

My Project

Students will learn to individually enrich their vocabulary, to become independent learners, and creative writers in French! I have had students who treat dictionaries as great treasures, because they represent a window on the world beyond their limited circumstances. I want these students to be able to test out of French for college and enable them to take other subjects and finish college in a timely fashion.

Please help these impoverished students with this supply they cannot afford.

French can help them to succeed in being accepted to a good college and propel them ahead when they get there. French also provides an opportunity to visualize other parts of the world and different ways of life.
