This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What do you remember enjoying during school? Most likely it was an experience or project that you participated in. Hands-on projects have lasting effects on students because they are learning while having fun!

I teach at a school outside of Washington D.C.

Our student population is diverse with students from over 30 different countries! With such a diverse student body, geography can be a fun and exciting unit of study. Students are eager to share where their family comes from and learn about others.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will be used for a unit on mapping and geography. The main component of this unit will be creating salt-dough maps of the world and our country. The students will be able to locate and label the continents and oceans of the world as well as the rivers and mountain ranges in the United States. The project will be engaging and more in-depth than just looking at a map. The additional resources include books for students to read during literacy centers that correlate with our geography standard. I hope students will be excited about learning about our world and country through this project!

So often students are unaware of the world around them.

They are unable to locate their state or tell me what city they live in. This project is important in getting my students engaged and excited about the world outside of their own! A hands-on experience is the ticket to creating memories.
