My Students

Ipod's, iphones and ipad's oh my! These are the topic's of conversation among my preschool students these days.Unfortunately, for my tech savvy student's that where the communication ends on such topics because they do not have access to that type of technology in my state-funded pre-K classroom.

I can remember when my students shared stories of bicycles, baby dolls and cartoons but now they discuss the iphone apps they have seen or cyber pets that they have.

Technology has changed the way my students learn but my under funded preschool program has not caught up to the technologically innovative ways the world has created to expose my three and four year olds to new information.

My Project

Once I receive a laptop with audio and video recording capabilities, I can use it to document student learning, publish original stories and share their work with parents, students and community members. Their journal entries can become two minute videos narrated by the students who created them. We can do whole group, small group and individual research on topics that the student's choose. They can create presentations on the research they find to parents, students and community members. Perhaps the most exciting capability will be to extend our learning beyond the classroom by taking our computer with us as we explore the world around us.

Computers are such an integral part of our society that I want to share the infinite capabilities of technology as early as possible with my students.

The sooner they realize the many uses for technology the less likely they will limit their technological understanding to video games and cellphones.
