My students need 11 materials such a paverpol fabric hardener, wire, and paint to create modern sculptures in the style of Alberto Giacometti.

My Students

Pablo Picasso said "Sculpture is the art of the intelligence". Please help my students explore new possibilities for art production and self expression with sculpture giving them an opportunity to exhibit their intelligence and creativity!

I teach talented visual art in rural Louisiana.

Students in my class have been identified as artistically gifted and are driven to create and they crave exposure to the arts! Many of them are considered at or below the poverty level and have limited knowledge of artists and possibilities for art production.

My Project

First of all I am "wishing" for a DVD that will expose my students to the work of artist Alberto Giacometti. They will be able to see first hand right in our classroom the types of art he created while learning about his life and career as an artist. Next, I would love for them to have the opportunity to create their own sculptures inspired by his work. This will allow them to work beyond pencil and paper to create a 3 dimensional piece of art work. This is an opportunity my students do not usually have due to budget constraints. These are the artists of the future and I can only imagine what they will be able to do with these materials! I would like to have the students display their works in our school library for the rest of the students in our school to see. Sharing what they have created and learned gives my students a great sense of pride.

The arts are an essential part of learning and they help students to develop important life skills such as critical thinking and problem solving skills.
