This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of students in a New York public school. I teach drama to over 130 2nd - 6th grade general and special education students. Many of these children have only been exposed to movies or television.

For the past three years, I have been the director of the school’s Spring musicals.

Many of the students have been bitten by the acting bug after seeing the musicals. These children are anxious to learn how to act. They have memorized basic stage directions and various theater terms. They enthusiastically do whatever I ask of them and can't wait to get on the stage to show their acting chops! One thing they need help with is seeing the scenes that they act out in groups. I am always correcting their positions and encouraging them to project their voices , enunciate their words and most importantly face the audience.

My Project

I am requesting two flip video camcorders, so that the children can record themselves rehearsing their scenes. If we had these flip video camcorders, they would be able to record each other and watch themselves. This would help them to see what needs to be corrected and why. The camcorders will also be used during the rehearsals for our school musical in the spring.
