My Students

Who can read and relax in a classroom library with no furniture or comfortable space? Creating a classic, child-safe library is essential to develop life-long learners, but extremely difficult when there is not a budget to create a safe and welcoming place.

My students are four-year-old girls living in the most under-served area of Washington, D.C.

Our all-girls school is 98% African-American and over 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. My girls are bright, curious, sweet and full of excitement for learning. At home, they may not have access to any books or the extra time to read.

My Project

This furniture will create a bright and comfortable space for my girls to relax, read and explore literature together. They use the library during center time and also throughout the day when they have free time. Creating this space for them to read will allow them to spend more times looking at books, increasing their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.

I want my students to be enthusiastic, lifelong readers and giving them a place to dig into book is the perfect way to start.

Your donation will allow them to expand their knowledge of high-quality literature.
