My Students

One of the largest challenges in my classroom is the lack of ability to organize the old lab tables to facilitate collaborative activities. The old lab tables rock and are full of years of graffiti and gum! It is a priority of mine to help create a classroom atmosphere that fosters collaboration!

Every year I have the privilege of teaching a very diverse group of about 100 middle school students.

Due to the rural locality and state of the economy many of my students have very few experiences outside of our county. It is unfortunate but also a golden opportunity to engage students with new activities. For example - each year we dissect frogs as a culmination to our human body unit - and the office personnel joke that it must be "frog time" because no student misses frog days! Like most 7th grade students my students are all about their friends and activities. Facebook, twitter and cell phones are where it is at. I'm looking forward to another exciting year ahead.

My Project

It is hard for me to describe just how awful my old lab tables are in my classroom. They are almost impossible to organize in any meaningful way. When you try to "group" them it is near impossible to move around the room. I envision a colorful room with high quality tables that allow for both individual work and also immediately have students in place to transition to collaborative activities. We learn and have fun in my class - but if there was one thing I could change about the facilities aspect of my classroom it would definitely be adding some colorful, group tables like these. Perhaps it doesn't seem like an exciting prospect but I guarantee you this would make a huge positive change in classroom atmosphere and would be most greatly appreciated.

These tables will really change the way I'm able to organize and conduct class.

No longer hampered by rows and squares I will be able to easily facilitate changes between individual and group activities while having a classroom that is bright and inviting.
