My students need 30 basic calculators to successfully complete this math requirement.

My Students

Students need to be ready for the real world. My class is ready for this challenge. In the real world, students will be using calculators to help with surface area, grocery costs, pay check amounts, etc. A simple calculator will assist them to progress to the 'real world'.

These students come from very diverse backgrounds.

Some students will come to school with the best calculator money can buy, while others will rely on either paper and pencil or the teacher for calculators. They are all looking for success. By all students having the same calculators, the students will feel equal to each other. They all must be able to use a simple calculator.

My Project

We will be learning how to apply algebra to real world. Some of my students will be in our "Construction Academy" and others will be learning to apply algebra to real financial matters. In the construction academy, students will learn to decide materials, amount of materials and cost of materials for real world applications. On of the first projects they will be doing is building a wall. They will decide what they need and how much it is going to cost. My financial students will figure out how much their new dream car will really cost after interest charges on their loan. All of this is real life and a simple calculator will make it much easier for them to figure.

Students will not get frustrated by doing long division and multiplication.

Adding up a long strand of numbers can be very tedious. The point is to get the students to understand concepts that they will be face with as they mature into young adults.
