Save The Turtles!!!!!!!!!!

My students need the microscopes, hydrometers, graduated cylinders and books so that we can research the changes in the oceans and beaches that are causing the decline in our sea turtle populations.

My Students

Sea Turtles are on the decline. I want to teach our coastal students how they can help save these very precious creatures. I took a 2 day class this summer on preserving the sea turtle and I would like to share my experiences with them. We took samples of sand & made slides to see under microscopes.

Our students are from a poverty county.

We are a Title One school. We are also an A school which means with the little resources we have, we are still high performing. Our students have great character and strive to succeed. I need these supplies so that I can boost our science knowledge. Endangered species such as the sea turtles need the help of the students. If I can educate the students on how to help our coastal animals, we will be helping the environment.

My Project

In our sea turtle training, we learned how to make our slides and viewed them under the prism microscopes. It was AMAZING to see how the sand is different along our coastline. You see, turtles marry to the sand they are born in. They come back to the same beach. That's why retaining our natural beaches, instead of dredging and relocating sand, is so important to the survival of our turtles. The hydrometers I'm seeking are also important to teach the students how the drop in alkalinity/salt, or the raising of it, can affect the ability of our coastal animals to survive. The books I have requested will also help me keep the students informed while reinforcing literacy.

I am so committed to helping our turtles.

We are so lucky to live on the coast of Florida and I feel it is important for everyone to do their part to help our coastal animals. If you donate to our project, you will also be doing your part to help an endangered animal.
