Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 20 pre-k four and five year olds in a title one urban school with a large population of Hispanic and low income families.

My students come from families with no health or dental insurance or the means to teach their child about proper tooth care.

Many of these students come to my class with cavities, caps, or fillings. Some of these children have never seen a toothbrush let alone know how to use one.

My Project

I would like to start teaching my students the proper care of their teeth as well as teach them about healthy eating. When I worked in a Headstart program we not only taught the ABC's and numbers but we taught the families and children about healthy bodies and teeth through parent meetings. I would be using the materials requested to teach my students how to brush their teeth and have them brushing their teeth after our meals during the school day. I will also be holding a parent meeting about the importance of healthy eating and proper care of our teeth. The materials include toothbrushes and a holder, books, charts, and little beanie veggies and fruits to help promote healthy eating.

With your donation you will be helping these children learn the necessary need of brushing our teeth properly and eating healthy foods to keep our teeth longer.

Your donation will help me touch the families who need the resources needed to help them care better for themselves. Children learn better when we meet all their needs not just educational but health needs as well.
