2011 Summer Marine Ecology Trip

My students need an underwater camera for our summer Marine Ecology trip.

My Students

On this trip, students see amazing marine life and can only take away memories. With an underwater camera they can document what they see along the way. It is a dream to hear the excitement in their voices as they share with each other the great things they see. How great if they could capture it!

All my students that I take down are middle class 7th and 8th graders.

The trip costs about $900 and with a lot of fundraising most students who want to go are able to. The students that I bring down have a love of the ocean and marine life. A few of them have told me, after the trip, how they would love to go into this field of study. What a great feeling knowing that I have given them this opportunity to learn more about our world and how ecosystems depend on each other.

My Project

Since most of the amazing things that students will see on this trip take place underwater, very few students have camera that have underwater capabilities. With this camera, my goal is to try to have students keep a log of marine life that they see and identify the animal. By doing this, students can have a real-life feeling of what it would be like to be a marine ecologist. Students would be working in groups to gather, take, and use the photos that are taken as wonderful learning tool to enrich their trip.

As adults we take trip to places around the world and are able to take pictures to remember all the wonders that we see.

By donating a camera, students will be able to remember this trip of a life time and the marine life that they witness first hand. These pictures will allow students to make a lasting memory of their time. I also hope that this trip will inspire a child for a life time and maybe even encourage a career path.
