My Students

Public speaking is both a great fear of many (adults alike) and a necessary skill for success in the real- world. Help my students prepare for the future, and gain confidence, as they journey into the past world of Shakespeare through a dramatic speech celebration.

Our school rests in a semi-rural setting in North Carolina.

Shakespeare is often feared for the 'foreign' language and is somewhat of a challenge for many. One of the most rewarding aspects for me as a teacher is the sense of accomplishment in a students once they have 'conquered' both Shakespeare and public speaking. Through dramatic speech, students can invent a personality and gain confidence behind the character. This acquired skill creates a foundation for success as students later present in other areas such as presentations for graduation and post-secondary ventures such as school and the workforce. Our school is in its first full year and would greatly benefit from a unified, schoolwide, activity. Help me reveal the inner public speaker to students while embracing William Shakespeare's contribution to the world!

My Project

The resources are required to develop students into engaged and confident learners. While the students make the activity, items such as quills and literature set the mood and tone for engaged learner. Students will self-select one item in the form of sonnet, monologue, or soliloquy from the text provided. They will see/hear representative samples from supplemental materials to help guide their selection. Award certificates will embrace and acknowledge the unique effort and contribution of each individual and his/her impact on the presentation activity. Awards will be offered in a variety of categories to embrace individual growth and achievement for all learners schoolwide. The students are definitely the clay in this project while the materials help to mold and shape the learner into a confident individual.

The impact of this project is immeasurable as it will help students to embrace learning while developing necessary skills in the 21st century.

Shakespeare has so much hidden relevance in the world of the student and applies to life/struggles/celebrations even today. This project will open doors for self-confidence and learning while developing necessary public skills for future success. In our semi-rural community, necessity often eclipses creativity; this activity embraces both elements
