My Students

Due to the high cost of art materials and the low budget,schools are faced with most art lessons including little more than pencil and paper. I want my students to experience what it is like to create a character out of polymer clay. With polymer clay the students can create detailed colorful 3-D art.

I teach middle school art students (grades 6, 7, 8).

My students have diverse backgrounds and home lives. The school has over 53% free or reduced lunches. I believe each and every student deserves the same schooling. I want to make sure that every student gets a chance to explore different types of art.

My Project

My students need multiple polymer art supplies to create characters of their own. Polymer clay gets overlooked by many art classrooms. It does not have to be fired at high temperatures like clay and does not have to be glazed. The students can see right away what their 3-D pieces look like. My students are always asking me when they can do a 3-D project and this would let me give them something they have never done. The students would also have another understanding of how human proportions work by creating their very own figures.

I have found that both males and females respond really well to 3-D art.

The students love to use their hands to create pieces of artwork. The colorful polymer clay gives them an almost instant gratification.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
