This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember your first iPod? Do you remember the first time you watched a video on the Internet and learned from it? For the students in my class digital learning is what we do on a daily basis. However, in order to know that my students have really learned a concept they need to teach it.

My tech savvy fifth graders come from a high poverty area.

While most of them are technology natives many do not have computers in their homes. School is the only place where they are able to access the Internet and explore the vast world of knowledge that is out there for them to grab.

My Project

Accessing information is not enough, they want to be able to share their knowledge with the world. There own little Wikipedia or YouTube. The students in my class want not only to be able to access information to learn but also be able to dispense information that they have learned in order to help another student who may be struggling. As we know Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia are all open forums in which information can be shared. But this special group of fifth graders sees the true potential for having students teach other students through the Internet. Students will be studying history, science, and math. Each of these subject areas will have a culminating Podcasting project in which student must show their grasp of the information by creating a video that demonstrates their knowledge and ability to explain what they have learned in detail.

Your contribution to this project will allow a single classroom to be able to reach out to millions of students around the world.

What better way to foster a global community than to have the beginnings of it be in the hands of the children.
