Graphic Novels for Eager Mathematicians

My students need 18 graphic novels to grab their attention, including "Steve Jobs, Steven Wozniak, and the Personal Computer" and "Jonas Salk and the Polio Vaccine".

My Students

Remember those old comic books? How exciting to see regular stories and information that these students have seen before in a whole new light. These graphic novels about famous people and their inventions and discoveries will bring great excitement and interest into my classroom.

For our Math Intervention this year, we are going to have a Gold Math Club and a Silver Math Club.

My Gold Math Club is going to be for my accelerated students. I believe these books will stimulate math talk, inventions, etc. in the Gold Math Club. Our school is 100% free lunch, and the poverty rate is about 93% in the area. They need to be exposed to other venues of literature, inventions, people, etc. We will use these books to spark projects and ideas for the students to expand.

My Project

Eventually, I will want my students to be able to write about math and even use a comic strip format to express themselves. I want them to be encouraged and inspired by these men and women who invented and discovered things that we use today. I want them to realize that they can do anything that they set their minds to.

My students do not have exposure to magazines, newspapers, and other medium that can inspire them to great things.

I want to bring everything into my room to inspire them to want to conquer the world>
