This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need art supplies to create ecosystems for a culminating project.

My students are second language learners.

My classroom is their first year in an English only class, and it is a very challenging year for them. They need alternative ways to express their learning of concepts. They excel when showing their learning through hands on projects.

My Project

This is one of my students favorite projects of the year. Students work in small cooperative groups to create an assigned ecosystem. In the past students have represented ecosystems in the form of posters and dioramas. This projects allows students to apply their new knowledge about ecological concepts and vocabulary. They will create land features of their ecosystem; identify organism as producers, consumers,or decomposers; explain the adaptions of plants and animals in their environment.

My thoughts and feelings about the importance of this project can best be summed up in the following quote- What I hear, I forget.
