A Rebirth For information About Earth

My students need earth science activities to assist them in understanding the processes which affect the movement of materials on earth's surface.

My Students

Our class wants to rock! Therefore, we will be studying rocks and the rock cycle. Students will investigate sediments and learn about the role of these sediments in the rock cycle.

My students are a group of highly motivated middle school learners.

However, our school is unable to financially support the science department. Students bring in many of the materials that we need for activities, and the parents help out as well. However, some items are not locally available. We would like to acquire necessary materials to remain actively "hands-on" in the science classroom.

My Project

The materials I have requested will allow my students to see how sedimentation works. The sedimentation tubes will allow my students to perform labs regarding deposition. The rock cycle DVD & accompanying lab will help students conceptualize how rocks form and change. My students love to see how things work, rather than to just hear the information read from a text book. I'm sure this hands-on lab will be well received!

These materials will help to convince my students that science, and learning in general, is exciting.

The more we can make our activities resemble the work that real scientists do, the more engaged the students become in their school work.
