T-Rex, Stegosaurus and a Paleontologist, Too!

My students need 14 books and science activities to learn about dinosaurs.

My Students

DINOSAURS! All students are excited about dinosaurs. We will make a Dinosaur Museum this year and need books and fossils to learn about dinosaurs. Students will make things for the museum and will be tour guides for the museum. This gives students an opportunity to be experts on dinosaurs.

My school is a public school with 950 students and most are from good homes.

But we also have our students who need inspiring so they will want to learn. We have large class sizes and less money spent per pupil in Utah than any other state. So there is very little money for special projects unless you use your own.

My Project

Imagine a first grader with a tour guide name tag, and a hat he made with dinosaurs on it taking 6th graders through the Dinosaur Museum that he helped to make. At first they think they won't know what to say but as they go to each area of the museum they discover they know a lot more about fossils, dinosaurs, and paleontologists than the sixth graders do. Students will use the books, stencils, fossils etc. to make the exhibits in the museum. Each year we do one theme for the year. This helps students learn to read non-fiction books, keep a journal of his digs (because he is a paleontologist), dig up dinosaur bones and help assemble a big dinosaur skeleton. The students take around a 1000 people through the museum. They learn to speak to a group and share what they have learned. Students become proud of what they have accomplished and they never forget what they learned. They are able to use the skills they learned in first grade through out their school years.

I have students from 10 years ago that still remember the year they got to make a museum.

I started because I had students that had never been to a museum. The donations will give the students materials to use so they can be a paleontologist. This project gives a student the opportunity to be special and learn that he can do anything if he works at it.
