My Students

Getting students excited about social studies can be a challenge when all you have is the textbook.

I teach a wonderful group of twenty-four enthusiastic second graders in a school with a diverse population.

Our district, like many others, is facing budget cuts. We need supplemental social studies materials to integrate literacy and social studies while enhancing their learning experience.

My Project

Reading about social studies in the textbook doesn't excite the students like discovering current events and topics in the Weekly Reader issues excites them. The Weekly Reader issues, Readers' Theater scripts and other activities will be used to integrate literacy and social studies and bring social studies to life in the classroom.

Your support of this project will give my students engaging supplemental social studies activities that provide enriching opportunities that can not be gained from a textbook or worksheet.
