My Students

Having a chance to do something special is a big deal in my classroom! One great thing about my classroom is that a favorite student reward is reading in the bean bags at the silent reading center. However, my bean bags are busted and are spilling the beans!

My fourth grade students are my children while they are in my classroom.

Most of my students need more than just an education, but love and attention many of them do not see at home. I teach at a low income school in North Carolina and most of my students live in city housing. I love being able to create a safe and fun environment every year in my classroom for my students to feel comfortable and welcome to learn!

My Project

I am requesting 4 new bean bags, a welcome mat, and new rug. I teach in a trailer and every little bit of color and decoration helps! Two years ago I purchased new bean bags and a rug for my reading center, but due to being cheap quality, they have fallen apart. I am looking for new bean bags and carpets that will not fall apart and last the love the children have for them. One of the greatest rewards in my classroom is getting able to silent read in the bean bags. I love getting my students excited for reading, and if all it takes is sitting in a bean bag, that is great to me! I would purchase these supplies myself, but due to budget cuts, I am purchasing pencils and paper my students cannot afford to purchase and my school cannot afford to stock the supply room. My students will be motivated to read and have a great place to sit and enjoy a good book!

Not only will funding this project provide resources for this coming school year, but for many more to come!

By funding these durable bean bags and rugs, my students will have a place for comfortable silent reading. It also motivates them to read by rewarding select students to sit and read at the bean bags while others stay at their desks. I also make sure all of my students get a chance to use the silent reading center during daily center rotations.
