My challenge is to evolve the boys' and girls' attitudes from one which has trouble with words to one which has fun with words! Games are the way to develop their reading skills. I serve boys and girls who are identified as at risk for dyslexia. My small groups range from second through fifth graders. Our district supports the alphabetic phonics program that empowers struggling readers to become confident and capable readers. This year, our Title One campus is celebrating its 50th birthday! My Project: Any time we can learn and have fun at the same time is a surefire win-win situation! Ready-to-use materials will build confidence of sight word recognition. Word games with catchy titles such as Go-Kart Rally, Scooter Scramble, and Mountain Bike Mania, with practice in context, are sure to make the task a breeze. Most sight words do not follow reliable spelling rules. Consequently, they must be committed to memory. High-interest, quickly-paced games will reinforce these words that are sure to appear in my students' day to day reading. hide» My students need games to build their confidence in recognizing high frequency sight words. details»
