My Students

"There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if the teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails," Nancy Kassebaum, a U.S. Senator, once said. My students need to experience technology, yet I have nothing to give them.

My students are wonderful kindergarteners who are excited to go to school everyday.

For some, school is the safest place they will be all day. Most of my students come from a less fortunate background and have little to no technology at home. Many students have never even used a computer before entering my room. Our school is overcrowded (half of the school is in trailers) and lacking a PTA, therefore it is also lacking money for "extras" to use in the classroom.

My Project

I am so excited about the endless possibilities for these Flip cameras in our classroom! To start, I took a week long training this summer; we used Flip cameras and learned how to upload videos to a website to create projects to share with schoolmates and family members through the Internet. We interacted with students using Flip cameras at this training and they were so excited, I knew I had to ask for these! The cameras have basically two buttons and would be so easy for kindergarteners to use (its hard to find technology this user friendly that works in a kindergarten classroom). Students would love to record stories or skits and would be even more excited to see themselves later on the computer. Lastly, yet still very important, I would love to use these cameras to document students' work, such as reading aloud or counting, since kindergarten is "graded" more in this manner, rather than paper and pencil work. It would be great to share with parents and my principal.

Not only would you be helping my classroom of students, but also our entire grade level (about 130 students) because we are sharing these as a grade level.

Our students would be so grateful for your generous donation because they would get to experience technology in an exciting and personal way. Please light their educational fire when they are first entering school so that they can experience the joys of learning.
