My Students

Have you ever had a story to tell but when it's your chance to speak you freeze up? My kindergarten students love to talk but often become shy when asked to share in front of others. But when they have a prop in their hands their confidence shines through and they find their voice!

My kindergarten students live in a rural community.

My students come from varied backgrounds and exposures to literacy in their homes. Some haven't been read to or have had stories told to them. Though, once they start school story time becomes their favorite time of the school day. They absolutely LOVE to listen to stories in the classroom!

My Project

Using story telling kits with cloth characters and props will excite children even more to the world of reading! These props will help them visualize stories and develop oral language skills. They will begin to use the cloth characters to retell the stories independently. They will interact with other children to act out the stories. This playing will help them build their understanding of a story which will help them on their way to becoming readers!

Your support of this project will help my students get off to a great start in learning to read!

In today's age of gizmos and gadgets, the art of oral storytelling needs to be fostered in young children so they can carry on the tradition. Learning how to weave a tale orally will help my kindergarten kids grow as students!
