My Students

When kids find an author or a story they love, it can spur a life-long love of learning and open doors to the future. My students fell in love with Sharon Draper's first book last year and I want them to continue to love reading by taking a crack at the next book in the series.

My students are passionate, hard working and motivated learners.

At our inner-city charter school, students pursue academic and artistic success through a variety of core classes supplemented by unique electives including West African dance, drum, and visual arts. They have created a vibrant community of artists and learners who support each other even without access to all the necessary school supplies.

My Project

The book I am requesting is the second in a series written by Sharon Draper. My students read the first book, "Tears of a Tiger" with their Language Arts teacher last year, and the whole while, the hall buzzed with students discussing the story outside of class. I know my students are invested in these characters and their struggles and I know that the high level of engagement will encourage even my lowest readers to tackle the challenge of this book. I will be able to push my students to new levels of understanding with the help of this engaging and exciting story.

Having a classroom set of "Forged by Fire" will positively impact my whole class.

Not only will they be invested in the story since they already know and love the characters, they will be excited to use the story to practice their literary skills. Thanks for your support!
