My Students

Do you remember that first series of chapter books that got you hooked on reading? That series for many of my students is Magic Tree House.

My third-grade students LOVE the Magic Tree House series.

Whether they are getting whisked away to visit the dinosaurs, boating down the Amazon, or seeing to Merlin the Magician's bidding, they enjoy the adventures with Jack and Annie that let them experience the world--past, present, and future. Many of my students, all of whom are Native American and live in one of the poorest counties in the nation, have not had the opportunity to explore much of the world beyond the where we live. But the Magic Tree House series gives them the opportunity to do just that.

My Project

Students already love the Magic Tree House fiction series, but they don't yet know the magic of the research guides. These nonfiction books provide more information on that topics that have already captivated students in the fiction books--pirates, sabertooth tigers, mummies, the Titanic, and more. This project will provide our class with all of the available research guides. The books will be available for students to read independently, and we will also use them in guided reading and science class to extend students' understanding of important reading and science concepts. The books will be used for years to come!
