My students LOVE coming to school and I want to make sure that they have the best materials to help them reach their learning goals. This year our state standards have changed a bit, and for the first time I will be teaching my students about rocks and soil in science class. I am thrilled to be teaching a unit on rocks, especially at a school here in Denver, where there is so much local history surrounding the important rocks, fossils, and mineral resources here in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
However, as this unit of study is new to our grade, I have NO materials to support our learning!
We need rock kits with diverse stones and minerals that students would be able to sort and classify, tools to help students view, weigh, and measure rocks, and guiding lessons and materials that will allow students to study rocks in small groups or centers, as well as in a whole-class setting. My Project: With your generous donation to this project, our class would receive several full sets of beautiful rocks and minerals that they could observe, study, sort, and classify. We would also get books about rocks, soil, and rock collecting, as well as science kits that will help guide and support our learning as a class and in small groups. Being able to effectively study rocks in class will not only help students master their standards for 1st grade, but will help foster a sense of wonder and curiosity about the local environment of Denver and Colorado- places famous for interesting and historic rocks, fossils, and geologic treasures!
Please consider donating to help my students get a "rock solid" education, and to help get them excited about the beautiful rocks in our local environment! hide» My students need books and sets of beautiful rocks and minerals. details»
