My Students

I teach kindergarten. We do a lot of circle time, all students are seated on the carpet, and my students need to be able to follow along with the big books, the phonics lesson, etc. My current easel is old and does not allow all students the opportunity to see, because it is so low.

I teach in a very rural district that is made up of the majority of students being minority.

Many of these students come from homes that do not have books in them. I even have had students who have never held a pencil or crayon prior to coming into my classroom. This is why I feel they need to be given every opportunity to participate in the class.

My Project

Having this easel will allow students to participate in reading big books along with me. It will allow students to the opportunity to come write on the white board provided with the easel. I can complete so many more hands-on lessons that students are involved in during circle time by having this easel in my classroom.

This is important because it will provide myself and my students so many more opportunities in learning.

I will be able to read a big book and write some of the key vocabulary words to the side for student to look for as we read. I will be able to write a morning message where students can come to the easel and help me write the message. These are things I have not currently been able to do, because my current easel does not allow this.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
