My Students: My Kindergartners start the very first day of school learning about letters and sounds. This is a critical skill- students need to master the letter sound relationship so they will be ready to read.

I teach a wonderful group of enthusiastic and eager Kindergartners, ranging in ages from 4-6 years old. We are a K-5 school whose Kindergarten population is booming! My classroom was an added section of Kindergarten two years ago and I still need many of the basic supplies. My kids are excited to learn how to read and write, but we need the tools to get us there!

My Project: My students need alphabet kits such as Tub O' Letters with Practice Cards for practice with identifying letters and sounds to be successful in Kindergarten. Alphabet sound tubs will provide engaging, hands-on learning about letters and sounds. We will use them from the very start of the year to identify letters and the sounds associated with each letter. The students will also be able to sort items by beginning sound, another important Kindergarten skill. These tubs will give students a visual image of letter/sounds which will help them as they begin to read and write. They will also be able to use the tubs in small group centers to sort the objects by sounds.

I have also asked for tub o letters and practice cards. I believe in differentiation in my classroom. Some students will master the alphabet sound tubs more quickly than others. I will then be able to have those students practice the tub o letters and practice cards. These resources provide practice with not only phonics sounds but also word building. Students will benefit from being able to practice their knowledge of letters and sounds by building words and spelling!

My students love to learn. The alphabet tubs and the tub o letters and practice cards will give them further hands on, engaging opportunities to learn letter sound relationships and prepare them for reading and writing. hide»
