My Students

A challenge my students are facing is they don't go outdoors enough! I'll never forget the countless hours I spent outdoors playing and learning. I want to bring the love for the great outdoors back into children's lives by teaching all subject matter in our school's outdoor learning environment.

My students are inquisitive 2nd graders.

They are very eager to learn and have fun in the process. The school they attend has a huge outdoor learning environment, aka, garden! I could almost guarantee that if you asked them what their favorite part of their school is they would say the garden! It is a place where students, teachers, parents, and the greater community come together. My students live in a neighborhood that is multicultural. The students attend a Title I school and live in a impoverished area, but this does not limit them in their learning journey!

My Project

The resources I requested will transform learning in my classroom! It is my goal to teach more than just science outside. I need to incorporate all subject matter in our outdoor learning environment. With the cameras the students will be able to have a hands-on approach to technology. They will be in charge of not only taking the pictures but then including them into other projects like a PowerPoint for Open House. The books will allow me to do more extensive thematic units that will correlate what we are learning and tie our units the garden! The measuring tape, thermometers, loupes and scales will enhance both math and science in the garden and will allow me to extend what we learn outdoors to the classroom. The bulletin board of the changing seasons provides a place for my students to not only track the seasons but measure and graph the different types of weather, as well. Overall, each resource I've requested will promote a higher level of learning!

This project is so important to me, because learning outdoors brings learning to a whole new playing field!

It allows the students to explore in their learning; therefore, they will internalize their learning more! Teaching all subject areas outdoors will allow me to teach beyond the textbook and make learning more meaningful for my students! Overall, my project will make learning more fun and, in return, hopefully bring the love of nature back into children's lives!
