My Students: My students are becoming avid readers, but want to learn more about real life subjects. Over the passed year they have gravitated towards non-fiction books, which are not very abundant within our current classroom library.

I teach bright, inquisitive students, ages 7-9, that have been diagnosed with Autism. They attend a year-round school program that helps them gain important academic and life skills. My students are very social and aware of what goes on around them, but they still need structure and boundaries to help them succeed.

My Project: Not only will these new books increase their desire to read, but it will increase my students desire to learn about the world around them. They will be able to generalize information from a text to real life experiences. Since my students gravitate more to real life books, their fluency and comprehension skills will also show improvement.

Your support in this project will help increase my students desire to read, as well as increase their comprehension of what they read. This will help them be more aware of their surroundings outside of a school setting. hide»
