I teach kindergarten in an inner city elementary school in Indiana. The majority of my students are from low income families and receive free breakfast and lunch. My classroom ratio is 23 students to one adult. My students come to me ranging in ability. Some students can read and write while others are unable to hold a pencil. My Project: Through your donation my kindergarten students will have the ability to read sight words in an exciting way! Students will use a variety of hands on materials to work independently or in pairs. Students will build sight words with magnets, puzzles, and games. Students can play a soup game that has letters printed on noodles. With the support of these items, I will be able to have my students work in small group literacy stations to learn sight words in a fun way. Students will play games with partners while making learning fun.
Each of the stations are based on the Indiana State literacy standards. Studies show that in the United States, the average American reads at a ninth grade level. With your support my students can avoid being a part of this statistic. Help our community build better readers. hide» My students need magnets, puzzles, and games. details»
