My Students

Being able to enjoy, perform, and create music is essential to a positive human experience. Having an instrument on which a child can create and perform quality music at their level, free from making "mistakes" will make an extraordinary difference in our music class.

Our music budget is extremely limited in our high-poverty, rural school district.

I have seen my students grow and develop musically in the three years I have been there, and I know the musical potential they carry with them if given the proper resources.

My Project

The Orff approach is a standard philosophy in Music Education, and the accompanying instruments are present in any well-equipped music class. It is my intention to eventually acquire a small collection of Orff instruments for my classroom. I have been trained in the Orff approach to music education, and have been convinced of not only the musical benefits, but the whole-child benefits as well. At this point, we have four worn glockenspiels, which are high-pitched metal instruments, as the extent of our Orff Instrumentarium. I am requesting an Alto Xylophone to start the process of properly equipping our music class.

Having an Alto Xylophone in our music class will allow children to perform and compose using pitches that are in their singing range, recognize patterns, and express themselves in a positive, musical way.
