My Students

Imagine trying to sit down to do some writing. You have a nice clean sheet of paper on the table, a sharpened pencil in your hand, an idea in your head and...your chair breaks!

I teach in a first grade inclusion classroom in New York State.

My students are energetic, engaged and eager to learn! They are a great little community of learners who care about each other and enjoy school! My class has 4 tables that are ideal for the community-style of learning that my students and I enjoy. There are 8 chairs at each table so that each student has their own space. Our problem is this - broken chairs! The chairs that we currently have are at least 15 years old. Through no fault of the students, the seats are breaking off of the frame. This is dangerous and the poor kids think it is their fault!

My Project

Last year, through the very generous support of Donors Choose, I was able to replace all the chairs at one table. This year, I am hoping I can be blessed by donors again and replace the chairs at another table. The chairs that I have selected are sturdy and comfortable for first graders. They will last a long time! The seats are molded in such as way to encourage good posture. Also these chairs have cushioned feet to protect the floor and reduce noise from movement. The chairs are designed to support a lot of weight - so students and teachers alike could use them. This would enable me to quickly move around the classroom, sitting with students that need help. I am requesting 8 chairs, which would replace the old chairs at one whole table in my classroom.
