My Students

Have you ever been in a classroom with 30 fifth graders? I have and when they are all eager to answer a question or find out what to do next, it can become a bit nerve wracking.

Due to funding issues, my class for the 2010-2011 school year will house 30 plus 5th grade girls and boys.

Most of them receive free lunch as they come from a high poverty area. About half these students have symptoms of ADD or ADHD and about 3 of them are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. These students are very intelligent boys and girls who will need an extra push to become upstanding members of society and that push will start with their education.

My Project

The resources requested in this project will cut down on noise and classroom distractions. As I will be the only teacher in the classroom for most of the day, if not all, these materials will support direct and indirect instruction. The personal dry erase boards will allow me to quickly assess student understanding, without an eruption of voices, and quickly move on to the next part of a lesson. The chair socks will prevent distractions when students are transitioning from one area to another within the classroom or in preparation to leave the classroom.

In funding this project, you will be helping an inner city classroom develop focus and retention of information.

You will be helping the students score higher and do better than what is expected by lessening the distractions in a fifth grade classroom. My students thank you and so do I.
