My Students

Train our brains. Encouraging students to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle in order to be the most successful students in the classroom.

Upon getting to know these students, you realize that not only do the students come in struggling to master the Florida State Standards but also the pressures of growing up in a low income community.

Many of these students are years behind in reading. Though this is a reality, these student leaders are hopeful. Many have big dreams of helping to be the change for the neighborhoods they live in.

My Project

After getting to know the students you quickly realize that many of their role-models are famous athletes. When asked the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" the students quickly respond by saying "a football player, a basketball player, or a cheerleader." This year I hope to embrace these dreams but also emphasize the importance of being a STUDENT-athlete. Our theme this coming year is "Train Your Brain". To start off every class, we will do an exercise on the gym mats to get our blood flowing and hearts pumping. We will then work out the most important muscle in our bodies- the brain. I hope that by incorporating this strong interest in sports with English and reading the students will be motivated not only through sports but also academically.

"Train Your Brain" is how I plan to invest the students this year.

In this I would like to make the classroom feel like a gym. These mats will be where the students come together at the beginning of each class to stretch. The students are in class for 90 minutes therefore warming up our bodies physically will truly help to push our minds for the remainder of class. Students will not only improve in reading and grammar but will understand why it's so important to work our brains and stay healthy.
