Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Homework is an important way to practice the skills students have learned throughout the week. My students do not have the organizational skills to complete daily homework and have never been taught how to be successful with their organization.

Our school is very low performing in a high poverty area of Connecticut.

My students have the desire to succeed and achieve, but they need the materials to do so. It is my job to make sure that I set them up for success. To do this, I believe it is important that they learn more than just basic content, but also learn greater life skills including organization and responsibility.

My Project

My students need planners! By using these planners students will be able to write down every assignment they have from each teacher every day. They will remember what homework assignments are due, when tests and quizzes are coming up and learn how to properly plan their time to complete the work necessary for success. These planners also provide an imperative link between teachers and parents. We can have the parents sign the agenda on a regular basis in recognition of the work their students are receiving and so they also know what their children are learning each day. Teachers will also be able to send comments home to parents regarding academics or any other issues that may arise in class. By teaching students how to use a planner we are setting them up for success in high school and in college. They will learn to be responsible for their own work.

Since our school does not have the funding for planners for so many students it is so so so important that I find a way to provide this necessary tool for them in a different way.

Our students have never learned to be responsible for their academics and it is our job to teach them ways in which they can succeed. By providing them planners we are giving them an essential tool for organizational purposes that will ultimately make them more successful in the coming year and beyond.
