Help Us Filter the Light!

My students need classroom light filters which will help to improve their classroom environment since fluorescent lights can be difficult on their eyes.

My Students

Make reading easier on our eyes! Do you have trouble reading under fluorescent lights? Students can too. I want to purchase these light filters to create a more gentle light in my classroom.

I am currently a teacher in a Special Education Classroom for 6th-8th graders.

I am at a public school in a small community in Kansas. We are a school that embraces the middle school concept of teaming and advisory time. My students have me for study lab, reading, math, and intervention classes. My students spend time in my room working on homework for other classes as well as getting instruction in reading and math. My students also spend time reading in my room and are on laptop computers. Often my students tell me to turn half the lights off because they are too bright! These light filters would be a great addition to my classroom environment.

My Project

Classroom light filters are fabric panels made to fit over existing fluorescent light panels already in the classroom. I believe the classroom light filters will make a huge difference in the feel of the room. The fluorescent lights are bright and hard on eyes after extended periods of time. As a special education teacher I feel the light filters will help my students as they complete homework and read and write. They will be a resource that we will use every single day, all day long. These could also be used for future years as well.

This is a project that I have wanted to do for some time now.

I have been to conferences and read research about how fluorescent lights can have a negative effect on learning. I would love the opportunity to purchase the light filters which can just be put right over the existing lights in the classroom. I know my students and I would see a big difference in the classroom environment. Thank you for your time looking at my project, and know that your donation would be greatly appreciated!
