A Love for Reading!

My students need 30 copies of "After Ever After" to push them towards a deeper love for reading.

My Students

Teaching students to read is often not the hard part in the classroom; however, getting a student to love reading is a painstaking task that takes clever methods and an array of books to which they can relate.

As a middle school student, it is often hard to relate to many of the classic novels that flood the shelves of the typical school library.

In a school with no funds, it is impossible to upgrade these collections. In order to move forward and foster a love of reading teachers go to great lengths to "give students what they like".

My Project

Last school year, my classroom was lucky enough to receive a set of "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie" by Jordan Sonnenblick, which is the first of two books that tell of the struggles of a middle school student. This novel proved to be EXACTLY what my students needed to relate reading to their own lives and to help them to master the many elements of fiction writing- THEY LOVED IT! If students were able to read the sequel "After Ever After" in conjunction with the first novel, their love and understanding would go even deeper than before. Both novels not only help students to understand fiction writing, but force students to reflect on their own attitudes, points of view, and many other problems that they face as middle school students.

Please help me to hook my students and to foster a love of reading.

Through the use of this novel in conjunction with what I already have, my students will be able to connect to their reading and master the concepts presented in fiction writing.
