This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Can you open the pretend center?" My students ask me this question every day. They love the pretend center, but they would love it even more with more supplies.

I am a teacher in a collaborative pre-k class at an elementary school in a high poverty neighborhood.

I work with a special education teacher to teach children who are 3 to 5 years old, and children with special needs are fully included into our classroom. Our students are enthusiastic learners. Parents often comment on how their child is so disappointed on the weekends that they do not get to go to school those days. They are lively and curious, and each one of them brings something special to the class.

My Project

With the materials requested, our pretend center will come to life! My students love using their imaginations and acting out familiar scenarios and stories at the pretend center. And while they are having fun, they are also learning. They are developing language skills and social skills, as well as building upon our weekly class themes.

The best way for a young child to learn is through play.

Your donation will help me provide a space for students to learn in an appropriate way for years and years to come and will provide them with opportunities that they do not have anywhere else. Thank you for your help!
