A Science Notebook to Treasure.

My students need 40 notebooks, 4 pencil sharpeners, pencils and colored pencils to create fun, interactive and creative notebooks to treasure for a lifetime.

My Students

I teach ninth grade science at an inner city school. My students face challenges from the time they get up until they go to bed. Some, don't even have their own beds! I started using science notebooks 5 years ago and have had great success with them.

My students attend a public school.

Unfortunately, we are an under performing school. Our school is comprised of 80% (or more) free or reduced lunch, homeless, a high immigrant population, newly arrived from war torn countries, and minority students. My students come to me with lots of baggage. I have found a way for them to feel connected to science through science notebooks. Often, through their many moves they misplace their textbook but they never misplace their treasured notebooks!

My Project

Students come into class write down a warm up and update their table of contents. Most science teachers hand out lab sheets but not in my classroom. We are inquiry based. Students get a question and head back to the lab writing everything down in their notebooks. They use color to help them remember different concepts and ideas they might have. I rarely make copies! All work is done in their notebooks. It's like a diary of their year in my class. Please help my students start their year off right and have the chance to create a treasure.
