My Students: School fitness programs are dwindling. Students are more inattentive, out of shape, and unfocused. Research shows that students with sensory disorders, attention deficit, and kinesthetic learners can benefit from using inflatable balls instead of chairs. Help us be the research!

I teach 1st grade at a suburban Utah school with high poverty levels. Our students participate in a formal PE class once a week for approximately 35 minutes and many do not participate in any other formal athletic activities outside of school. The lack of exercise effects their general focus, energy, and mood as well as their ability to learn.

My Project: Replacing my classroom chairs with stability exercise balls will integrate core fitness training in the daily classroom routine, encourage good posture, movement, attentiveness, and a healthy dose of playfulness in our classroom. They can be used for individual chairs in the classroom as well as exercise and movement activities throughout the day.

This is a chance to share with my students at a young age why activity is important in their lives. The balls provide an ergonomical design to increase core strength, good posture, and decrease overall fatigue. hide»
