My students need yoga mats and a variety of fitness DVDs for indoor recess.

My Students

Rainy days used to mean staying inside for videos and board games. Those days of simply playing board games for indoor recess are gone! Now, our students need to stay active and exercise daily, even when it is raining or snowing outside.

I teach special education in a low-income school in Kentucky.

All of my students have severe learning disabilities or mild mental disabilities, and the majority of my students come from low-income homes. I have a small group of students, but their needs are great.

My Project

Daily physical exercise is mandated by state law in Kentucky. Additionally, physical exercise is important to keep my students active and engaged in their learning. We have many, many days that we have to stay inside for recess, due to rain, snow, or even excessive heat. These yoga mats and exercise DVDs will help to keep my students active, even on those days when we have to stay inside due to the weather. By getting out their extra energy, my students will be able to focus on their schoolwork following recess, whether it is indoor or out.

Your contribution to this project will make it possible for my students to stay active when the weather is unpleasant.

Exercise is important every day, especially when students are trying to focus on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. They need and deserve some time to exercise, and these materials can help provide exactly that.
